Ingredients

blueberries
  • 2 cup fresh blueberries
strawberries
  • 2 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and halved lengthwise
bananas
  • 3 medium bananas, sliced into rounds
lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice to brush on bananas to prevent browning

Equipment

  • 1 sheet pan

Method

Build the flag platter
  1. Choose a large rectangular serving tray or cutting board and place it on a flat surface so you can see the full layout clearly.
  2. In the upper left corner, arrange a dense rectangle of blueberries to form the canton (star field), keeping the pieces tight for a clean square.
  3. Starting from the top right of the tray and working left from the blueberry section, lay rows of halved strawberries cut-side down to form the red stripes.
  4. Brush banana slices with lemon juice to prevent browning, then arrange them in rows between the strawberry stripes to create the white stripes.
  5. Continue alternating strawberry and banana rows across the full length of the tray until the flag pattern is complete and evenly spaced.
Serve or chill briefly
  1. Serve immediately for the crispiest fruit look, or refrigerate uncovered for up to 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For the cleanest red-white-blue rows, keep strawberry cut sides facing the same direction and fill gaps as you go. Refrigerate uncovered up to 1 hour—after that, banana color may dull. Freezing is not recommended. For a dairy-free option, this is naturally dairy-free; for a lower-sugar swap, use raspberries in place of some strawberries while keeping the same striped layout.
